Who We Are

Our History

The wine CASA DA SENRA is produced by Quinta dos Abrigueiros in the valley of the Lima river, on the north of Portugal, between the villages of Ponte de Lima and Arcos de Valdevez.

In the XVII century the lord of Casa da Senra, Tristão de Azevedo de Araujo “Leonês”, already roduced wine in his lands. The wine was later exported by boat through the port of Viana do Castelo to the north of Europe. Part of these lands constitute now Quinta dos Abrigueiros.

Today, the 10th generation lead by Paulo Pimenta de Castro Damásio, expanded the plantation of the vineyards in a simple string guidance, electing the native and imperious variety of the sub-region, Loureiro.

Even though it is now planted throughout the Vinhos Verdes region, the Loureiro grape variety is likely to have its origins in the Lima valley where it clearly manifests its best features.

“Loureiro” has two meanings, blond which recalls the golden color of the wine, and also the special perfume exhaled from the bay leafs. In ancient times the “laurel wreath” symbolized glory and distinction, which accurately determines the characteristics of the grape variety!

Quinta dos Abrigueiros has been increasing the production over the years as well as investing in better winemaking technology. This is made in self-owned wine cellars, in a quest to highlight the freshness and the aromas of the east, resulting in a wine with a fruity aroma and a fresh taste typical of the Loureiro variety.
